We were absolutely delighted with the apartment. It had all the comforts of home, was absolutely spotless, and had the warmth and character of days gone by. Everything from the decor to the dinner plates was pleasing.
The location really couldn’t be better: a safe, lovely, quiet neighborhood with everything you could possibly need only a few minutes walk away, including the subway. Our hostess Maryla, was charming, thoughtful, accommodating, and perhaps most importantly, Maryla made us feel like special guests from the moment we arrived.
I don’t know when we’ll next be back to New York, but when we do, this is exactly where we plan to stay!
- Helen McLeod, Hamilton, Canada
We had a wonderful stay at the Messerole Suite. It is our fifth stay in one of Maryla’s apartments and we have stayed in three different apartments. The quality, comfort, cleanliness, and style of all three apartments are identical and consistent.
Maryla offers a very high quality of the apartment with many lovely touches. And you could not hope for more welcoming and friendly hosts in Maryla and Geoffrey. Maryla is on hand to deal with any issues during your stay and both make you feel very, very welcome and provide any information and recommendations you might need.
Everything about the area is perfect – quiet street, great bars and restaurants, excellent grocery shopping and wonderful farmers market every Saturday only ten minutes walk from the apartment. Transport is easy with a choice of many buses, a wide range of subway lines and the very wonderful East River Ferry which is like a daily treat showcasing one of the best skyline views in the world.
In summary, a must stay.
- Deidre Watt, Edinburgh, Scotland
We had a lovely stay at the Calyer Suite appartment. It was a real home from home, clean, comfortable, well equipped, well located – only ten minutes from a subway and about 30 mins into Manhatten. Highly recommended!
- Andrew Brodie, Sheffield, UK
Beautiful apartment! Bright and airy, imacculatly clean and kept up. Located on a quiet residential street with a short walk to grocery store, restaurants, etc. Easy, inexpensive and pleasant ferry ride to either Midtown or Wall Street. Maryla is an awesome host. She made sure we had everything we needed and gave us a great orientation of the neighborhood. Far surpassed my expectations.
- Paul P., Charlotte, USA
My dad and I stayed at Maryla and Geoffrey’s beautiful apartment at the end of May 2017. The apartment is very comfortable, spacious and is equipped with everything that we needed for our stay.
Located just off an interesting, busy main street, the apartment is great for exploring Brooklyn and is a perfect base for easy access to Manhattan, etc.
Maryla and Geoffrey are wonderful hosts, warm, friendly, accessible and so helpful. Following their hints and suggestions took us to places that would never have been on our itinerary. Our ‘Geoffrey day’ really was one of the highlights of our time there.
Clearly we would recommend Maryla & Geoffrey and their apartment to anyone looking for an adventure in New York.
- Corrina L., Glasgow, Scotland
This is our third stay at Maryla’s wonderful apartment – our second stay at the Orchard Suite.
The apartment has all the key things a traveller looks for. Quality, location and a highly responsive hostess in Maryla. We have visited Manhattan many times – Greenpoint beats it on all points. It is laid back, wonderful local markets, the best restaurants and pubs, easy cycling around – there are citibikes at every corner and greenway cycling all around the apartment location.
Maryla takes pride in her apartment and continues to improve it – this year the floors had been resanded and a top quality bathroom replacement carried out. The shower is the best!!
The ground floor apartment is perfect for a couple and has the bonus of a second double bed although it’s not a closed off room but perfect if you have a young child or teenager who sleeps through anything.
Top three local recommendations – take the East River ferry and avoid the dirty, outdated subway. It’s the same price and you’ll have spectacular views of Manhattan. Visit the Barge for evening drinks at sunset. And there are munsroua local rooftop bars. Go to Williamsburg Market Saturday or Sunday – one day is food, the other flea. Oh yes, the local shopping markets are also excellent. We love wholefoods on Bedford Road but there is a market a few minutes walk from the apartment too. And there’s a food market in McCarren Park on Saturday mornings – we do our shopping for the week there.
Greenpoint and Brooklyn have so much to offer and it is a very easy journey to get to Manhattan
The apartment keeps cool in the very hot times and the kitchen downstairs is a little oasis. With all mod cons, we can’t recommend this wonderful apartment in the best location with the best hostess to any traveller. You will not regret booking here.
- Deidre W., Edinburgh, Scotland
It was not my first or second stay at this lovely pace, no my fourth! Once again, it was a pleasure and a wonderful trip. It is always a pleasure to quit from the small and silent Switzerland to the big Apple. From the lovely apartment, you can reach everything in time, like Manhattan, Bars, Stores etc. Due to that, the apartment is so lovely, cozy and clean you feel like home. Finally yet im-portantly, the housekeeper is so a gorgeous person it is always nice to see and have a chat with here. Dear Maryla see you soon in Brooklyn.
- Michaela D., Switzerland
We stayed in the Calyer suite for seven nights in late April – early May 2017. Our daughter has lived in Greenpoint for six years and, on each occasion that we have come to NYC to see her, we have tried a variety of apartments close by. This is the winner by a large margin. Very well setup and comfortable. We won’t be looking for other apartments in future.
- Peter C., Adelaide, Australia
It seems a hundred years ago since we were staying in your beautiful apartments in May 2016. With all the unforgettable memories about our stay – we speak every time when we meet about it – I would like to add a few lines to your site. Of course it is up to you whether you want do integrate our comment or not.
We stayed in May 2016 for 10 days in the wonderful apartments of Maryla and Geoffrey. Both of them, The Calyer and the Meserole Apartments were simply great, very cozy, extremely well equipped and decorated with a particular taste for colors, materials, and charming details. We immediately felt at home. After our return, however, we very much regretted that we could not enjoy much more our generous NY home because we were each day “on the road”.
We very much appreciated after our long and interesting strolls in the busy Manhattan to come home to Brooklyn where we found a completely relaxed atmosphere contrasting the hectic life on the other side of the water. We also appreciated very much to reach Manhattan by Underground or Boat and to select each morning another approach. The neighborhood with all the nice and mostly old houses offers a great number of good restaurants, shops and green spots. A perfect setting for a stay.
Maryla and Geoffrey are very charming hosts, always available and helping with a great variety of propositions and informations. One feels that both are strongly connected to their place. Geoffrey’s book is also a proof for this. Can you stay in such an apartment in such a surrounding, it is precious and remains unforgettable. Thank you once again for your great hospitality.
- Esther M., Switzerland, Switzerland
We visited New York for the first time to celebrate our children’s 18th and 21st birthdays and wanted somewhere special to stay – and Maryla‘s apartment was perfect.
Beautifully decorated and elegant, it has some nice original features and was particularly lovely as the owner Maryla had decorated it for our Christmas stay.
We loved Greenpoint as it was quite villagey yet only a few minutes by train or ferry from Manhattan. There are a huge variety of restaurants and cafes including Icelandic and Swedish ones, which became our locals. My son was determined to try an American diner and there was a great one up the road. We often used a deli called The Garden for pick up food for tea.
The whole area was originally owned by Norwegian then Dutch settlers and it still retains a unique individual feel. It felt perfectly safe and was a great base for exploring New York. We loved so much of it – Tiffany’s, MOMA, the Empire State Building (I was surprised how much I loved it), film locations (we went on our own You’ve Got Mail tour). You can do cool things like visit a 1930s carousel under Brooklyn Bridge they walk over it to Ground Zero.
I can’t praise the apartment, area and New York enough – there’s far too much to put in this review.
In particular, Maryla was a fantastic host and helped us with anything we needed – she even got up at 4 am to make sure we got our return taxi ok! Emails were always answered promptly which gave a great sense of security and confidence in the holiday.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the apartment or Maryla. Amazing!
- Angela G., Oxford, England
We had a lovely seven night stay in Maryla’s charming apartment in Greenpoint. It was exactly as portrayed and more. Very clean, tastefully decorated, conveniently located and complete with the amenities that you might need. I appreciate the « shoes off » policy because it shows that the owner takes great personal pride in the place. We will definitely visit Maryla again.
- N.M.C., Los Angeles, USA
Maryla’s apartment is cleaned, fully equipped and well-maintained.
We have spent 8 magic nights and next time in NY we will sure stay again.
Ciao Maryla from your Italian guests!
Max, Rosanna, Giulia and Alice
- Massimiliano T., Italy
This was such a wonderful place to stay while in Brooklyn/NYC.
It was spotless, welcoming and so comfortable. The beds are extremely comfortable and a great way to relax and rest with tired minds and bodies after exploring the city.
Maryla is a fantastic host! Helpful and accommodating.
Great location and I highly recommend exploring Brooklyn as well as Manhattan. I would definitely stay here or in one of Maryla’s other properties on the same block again.
Great location to watch the NYC marathon go through Brooklyn.
Thank you Maryla!!
- Debbie B.
This apartment perfectly suited our needs for our first family trip to New York. The apt. was well equipped, clean and a great location for visiting New York. The owner was really welcoming and her husband so helpful with advice on getting about in Brooklyn and travelling into Manhattan. Thank you for an excellent stay. The India street East river ferry was a great way to get across to Manhattan on a hot sunny day.
- The Mills Family, Oxford, England
Our stay in Brooklyn was super. Everything was there and clean! A real pleasure!
After a day Manhattan it felt like coming home in the apartment.
Greenpoint is a very quiet and safe part of the city.
The transfer of « East River Ferry » is an easy way to move to Manhattan. Good restaurant in Greenpoint: Le Gamin, 108 Franklin Street (both for breakfast and dinner). In « Manhattan Ave », around the corner from the apartment are many shops where you can find everything you need to cook for themselves.
We will definitely come back because we certainly have not seen all of Brooklyn and Manhattan. The people in Manhattan and Brooklyn are super friendly!
Greetings to Geoffry
Johan, Anja, Martin and Natascha (Belgium)
- Johan V., Belgium
Amazing apartment in Brooklyn, spotlessly clean, quiet and private. 2 double bedrooms (one can be 2 singles), well equipped kitchen with everything you need, air conditioning, bathroom with lovely fluffy new towels. Just walk in, unpack and enjoy Brooklyn.
This beautiful apartment is close to water bus and Subway. We used both daily and found we could go anywhere we wanted very easily. Get a subway map and you can explore anywhere in New York. Subway is easy to use and safe.
There are banks, shops, supermarket, bars and great little restaurants all within walking distance of the apartment and Maryla is available to help with information and has a great knowledge of Brooklyn.
- Sue C., Christchurch, New Zealand
What a great apartment – everything was perfect!
This was our first stay in New York. We (2 adults and our 3 children (10, 12, 16)) stayed for about 5 days and we felt at home as soon as we arrived. Maryla made us all welcome and provided us with great ideas and detailed maps in order to discover the charms of Brooklyn and surrounding areas where you find everything needed.
Greenpoint/Brooklyn is totally charming and the perfect place to recharge your batteries after a hectic day sightseeing in Manhattan. Besides we always felt very safe and enjoyed the silence during the night.
We would love to come back soon! Thank you Maryla!
- Bregulla, Muenster, Germany
This is a lovely Victorian apartment in a tree-lined street. As frequent visitors to New York we found it so much nicer to wake up to the sound of birdsong in the morning than the usual Manhattan bedlam. It’s still very much an up and coming neighbourhood on the edge of Williamsburg but it’s a family neighbourhood and feels very safe as well as being within easy walking distance of the great restaurants and bars in Willamsburg. As other reviewers have highlighted, the owner, Maryla, is exceptionally helful. First time visitors might be put off by the need to take two subway trains to get into the city (the nearest East River ferry terminal was closed when we were there) but I’d recommend it to anyone who wants a slightly different New York experience.
- Irene, Glasgow, United Kingdom
My family and I enjoyed a wonderful five-day vacation at Maryla’s apartment. The two bedroom apartment allowed our family of four plenty of space to relax after touring the city. Every amenity is provided – plenty of dishes, bedding, washer/dryer, etc. The neighborhood is charming, and it was nice to explore a quieter neighborhood when needing a break from the energy of Manhattan. Maryla was there when we arrived and made sure that everything was as expected. We absolutely loved our stay and would recommend this apartment to anyone.
- Tanya F.
Maryla’s apartment in Greenpoint is modern, spacious and comfortable with everything you need for a relaxing retreat once you get in from the amazing buzz of the Big Apple.
As over the phone and through emails Maryla is very friendly and greeted us on our arrival and gave us loads of useful information about the local area, transportation, etc.
Having stayed in Manhattan twice before, the location is great and being amongst real New Yorkers away from other tourists is what we came to New York for, a real experience! Whilst also being close to transport links to get to those must-do tourist spots for the first time visitors in our party.
There are plenty of places to eat in the local area and within the local Brooklyn/Queens vicinity without any need to have to venture back into Manhattan which was a real bonus plus being able to eat great food from around the globe at much more reasonable prices!
Breakfasts were catered for each morning with the hot buttered bagels from just round the corner on Manhattan Avenue, very yummy!
Travel to Manhattan couldn’t be easier, taking the G then 7 or E you’re right in the middle of midtown in about 15 – 20 minutes. The East River ferry is also another great way to get around.
All in all the apartment is everything and more you’ll need to make a stay in New York even better than you could imagine.
Thanks so much Maryla for making our stay so great hope to come back the next time we visit NYC!

- Anne H.
Fantastic stay here with Maryla. The apartment is a great size for four and in a great location in a fun and vibrant part of town. We based ourselves here for a week, bought metro cards and travelled all over Brooklyn and Manhattan. Getting around was a piece of cake and we came home at night to the peace, quiet, comfort and cleanliness of this superb apartment. Would definitely go back if we find ourselves travelling to New York again.
Greenpoint we come back! Danke..
- Michaela D.
- Jeanne V.
My husband and I spent ten wonderful days in New York. We were a little hesitant about staying in Brooklyn, being away from the central Manhattan district where most of the attractions are. Staying in Brooklyn was the right decision. The apartment is in a quiet street and only minutes from the shops and subway stations. For the same price as a small hotel room in Manhattan we were able to spread out and not trip over our suitcases and shopping bags. Another plus about staying in Brooklyn was, with the strong Aussie dollar, we could eat out all the time for less than $20 for the two of us. The servings and so big we could share sometimes.
Staying amidst real New Yorkers was a great experience and we met some really nice locals when we were out and about shopping and eating in the high street of Manhattan Ave and our long walk to Williamsburg. Brooklyn has so much to offer… Galleries, shopping, restaurants and no crowds.
Travelling to and from Manhattan was so easy and fast via the subway. We caught the East River ferry to Wall St for a nice change. I wouldn’t recommend this on a cold day though, waiting on the wharf was very chilly.
Maryla is a real treasure. She was always contactable and very helpful and a great sense of humour. EVERY ROOM in the apartment is beautifully appointed with all modern conveniences, very welcoming and homely. The beds were so comfortable and warm we had no trouble falling asleep after our long days.
We highly recommend this apartment to everybody with the exception of young twenty somethings looking for a raging nightlife every night. We were pleased we did our research and read reviews on VRBO before booking accommodation.
- Rosalie P.

We are a Swedish family, me and my husband and our two daughters, 15 and 18 years old. This was our first stay in the USA-New York. The apartment was our home for 11 nights and we really felt at home right away. It was bright, very clean and fresh, had comfortable beds, a well equipped kitchen with nothing more to ask for, a very nice bathroom and a generous amount of towels. The owner, Maryla, was so helpful and took very good care of her guests.
The neighborhood felt pleasant and safe, also in the evenings. It was just a short walk to the subway, 10 minutes, at Greenpoint Avenue. Not far from it there was a grocery store; The Garden, which Maryla told us about – rather small – and with a wide range of grocery, fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, ready made dishes, coffee, bread…Don´t miss this! She also told us about some restaurants (eg Five Leaves), an Italian pizza place, and bakery nearby the apartment.
There are so much to experience in a city like New York – but we would at least like to recommend two nice restaurants we found in Manhattan; Eataly at Madison Square Park (nearby the Flat Iron building) – at first from the outside we only saw a coffeshop and ice cream – but there were a lot of restaurants inside! Fish, pasta, pizza and also a rooftop restaurant. And in the same area; Hill Country – if you would like to feel like you are in Texas!
So for us we could not have asked for anything more from this holiday – and we can really recommend this apartment for other travellers!
- Maria N., Sweden
My husband, brother, and I just had a glorious visit here. Outside we had snow and ice, but inside was pure comfort.
Every part of the apartment feels beautiful and new, with crisp modern appliances and cabinets; but the tapestries, lace, and design touches remind you that you are living in an historic Brooklyn home.
The neighborhood is quiet but near a number of good restaurants and night spots and literally minutes from Manhattan. The ferry ride down to Brooklyn Bridge Park is gorgeous, but 14 degrees made us chicken out this trip.
We did use the amazingly efficient kitchen daily and even prepared a meal for a small group of hip Brooklyn twenty-somethings (our daughter’s crowd). They seemed as taken with the simple luxury of the place as we older tourists are.
Maryla and Geoff made sure everything was perfect for us. We hope to get back to this home away from home soon.
- Valerie W.
We are a Swedish family of four that stayed in Maryla’s Williamsburg/Greenpoint apartment for a week in January 2013. Our kids are 12 and 8 years old. Maryla’s apartment was perfect for a family like ours. We had plenty of space with two separate bedrooms, open kitchen/livingroom and a comfortable bathroom. The washing machine and dryer were good to have.
The apartment is very quiet, being on a small residential street with the bedrooms toward the backyard. We had birds singing in the mornings! During our stay we had our share of the winter flu and so it was especially comforting staying in such a quiet, comfortable and bright apartment. Soothing baths in the bathtub helped a lot! The neighborhood feels very safe and is interesting with a strong Polish touch. There is a three minute walk to Greenpoint main street with grocery stores, restaurants and subway. Taking the nearby East River Ferry to Manhattan took only minutes and gave fantastic views of both the Manhattan and Brooklyn skylines. Not to be missed is the Williamsburg part of NYC.
Maryla is an extremely nice and helpful host, giving us good advice on what to do and see. We can really recommend Maryla’s apartment to other NYC tourists.
- Swedish family, Sweden
Our experience was totally positive! Myself, my husband and 17 year old son had never visited New York before so were a bit apprehensive, but the owner Maryla Cobb was easy and efficient to book and communicate with, giving clear directions and offers of assistance.
The beautifully presented apartment is easy to find in a friendly area yet easy travel distance to the centre of NYC. Maryla’s kind advice enabled us to be instant experts on the subway and sites!
The apartment is spacious, clean and has extremely comfortable beds! The temperature was perfect and the bathroom facilities luxurious. We took advantage of the modern laundry facilities and the large kitchen/living area…a real home from home!
Maryla gave us recommendations for local restaurants which were superb and cheap! Easy walk too. I have noticed the number of exclamation marks in my review but truely we stayed in many places in our month long trip[including Intercontinental Hotels]and we all voted our stay at Marylas our favourite!
We had a very pleasant 7 night stay at Maryla Cobb’s gorgeous apartment in Greenpoint. The reviews are right, this is a beautiful, modern, comfortable and well located place to stay. The city is easy to access on the G/7 or L lines, and in good weather, the East River Ferry is hard to beat. Greenpoint has all you need and an easy 10 minute walk has you in North Williamsburg. Maryla is very helpful and accommodating and gives great advice on the best of the local area. Highly recommended.
- Rocky, NSW, Australia
After staying in Manhattan in small expensive hotels on a couple of occasions, we decided to try staying in Brooklyn. The location, facilities and most of all the owners made our stay in Brooklyn the highlight of our 7 week trip around the world. With Manhattan only 20 minutes by Metro and the help, information and friendliness given by Maryla and Geoff this accommodation was beyond our expectations. There is no comparison to being in a small hotel room and having the luxury of staying in a roomy appartment with more than enough facilities.
- Carol B., Wollongong, Australia
A recommander.
- Catherine B.
- Anne B.
This is a great apartment and was perfect for the 10 days we spent here in a sweltering July. We wondered, during our journey from England, if the apartment would live up to the photos and reviews. It did. My wife and I, with two older teenage boys loved the apartment. It might look from the photos like there is a double bed not twin, but they are seperate beds very close together and were fine for the boys.
The apartment is in a great situation with a high street near by where you can get everything you need. There are two subway lines close by to get into Manhattan, or further out in Brooklyn. One entrance is close by to a diner which was a great way to start the day. There’s also a park nearby, where there was often something happening and even a running track available to all, which suited us being runners. A short walk is Bedford Avenue and the Williamsburg district. Plenty of bars, good places to eat, clothes shops, a great music shop – even selling vinyl, tasty ice cream from vans and generally a good atmosphere.
Maryla is a great host and is very welcoming. She gave advice on where to go, how to get there and even loaned us beach towels on one of the hottest days, when we took her advice to relax at Rockaway Beach.
We needed the air conditioner during the night as New York was in the middle of a heat wave, but the apartment did cool down. Although we did very little cooking the kitchen has everything you’ll need. The whole place felt like home very quickly.
If you want baseball try the minor league Brooklyn Cyclones at Coney Island. You might not get the skill levels of major league but it is a lot of fun and an easy but longish ride on the subway from the apartment. Plus you’ve got the famous attractions of Coney Island.
If I’d change anything I’d echo what others have said about rearranging the lounge to make it more comfortable to watch TV. Having said that, we were too busy to sit around watching too much of it anyway.
The apartment was a great place to return to after a hectic day sightseeing in the noise of Manhattan. It was nice to have a place away from the bustle to relax. Still, if you wanted to stay local there was a few noisy bars and Bedford Ave didn’t seem to sleep much.
I loved New York and when I can I’ll return. The first place I’ll look for accommodation will be this apartment. And it’ll be great to say Hi to Maryla and Geoff.
- Simon F., England
Three of us stayed at this great apartment recently and it was exactly as described by the owner. Fantastically clean and with a great layout it was an excellent base for our week’s stay in NYC.
Maryla and Geoffrey are very good hosts – available if you need them and unobtrusive if you don’t.
Links to Manhattan are very easy, Greenpoint Avenue is the nearest station (5 minutes) and it’s a very easy and quick link to Midtown Manhattan.
The East River Ferry is great and gets you to Wall Street very quickly.
The local restaurants are very good – better than many in Manhattan and cheaper; Five Leaves and Calyer were particular local favourites. We would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to our friends.
- Jennie N.
Si je devais retourner à New York, j »y retournerais volontiers!
- Corinne L.
I stayed at this property for 10 days with my partner, my sister and her partner, when we arrived we were delighted with the apartment, it has lovely original period features with decorative mouldings and high ceilings. The kitchen and bathroom are really well finished with plenty of appliances to make your stay more comfortable.
The location itself is pretty good with the subway and the East River Ferry close by to get to New York itself, I would recommend using the ferry crossing on sunny days to enjoy the good views. Also nearby are good local bars, local shops, Cookie Road is a must for chocolate lovers, there is also a lovely Chinese a few streets up near McDonalds, as well as little clothes shops close by.
Maryla herself was friendly, polite and helpful upon greeting us and shows us the good places to visit and best ways to travel around. Clearly takes pride in her property as it is lovely in many ways.
We really enjoyed this option of renting a house instead of staying in a hotel as it gives you more flexibility to enjoy your holiday the way you want to whilst not having to worry about hotel schedules, this is also really good value for money.
We enjoyed this so much we are hoping to return either later in the year or next year.
Only piece of advice is an extra sofa would be helpful by moving over dining table into void by tv, perfect otherwise.

I couldn’t have been more pleased with my stay here. The flat is as pictured, spotless and very comfortable. Really, the cleaning was so well done. Maryla was very sweet. The apartment is not far from every cool spot in Greenpoint, including some very good restaurants. The subway is a 10 minute walk, and all you would need is available to you on that walk. The local car service was totally reliable and took us to Manhattan in 15 minutes. I was very happy here!
- Maggie B, Boston, USA
Merci Maryla!

I am a proud resident of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. My family was visiting from Thailand and needed a place in the neighborhood to stay for the week. Usually they stay in a hotel while visiting but after this trip, they have changed their minds! They fell in love with this apartment. It is spotless and has every imaginable amenity you may need while away from home (my mom was super excited about the washer/dryer). In addition, they loved experiencing the hip neighborhood while still being a close train ride away from Manhattan. This apartment is now our new go-to place for all our family members to stay!
- Chissa D., Thailand
Super accommodations: clean, nice, relaxing, good beds, well furnished… You feel immediately at home, better than home!
The owner is very kind and helpful. Greenpoint and Williamsburg are nice and in a very short time you can reach Manhattan by underground or East River Ferry.
- Marta B.
I live with my family in Greenpoint and booked this apartment for my parents and my aunt, all visiting from Germany for the Marathon (my Dad actually ran the Marathon, – his 2nd in NY!!). They stayed for 10 days and enjoyed it very much.
The apartment is bright, clean, very, very comfortable and everything is brandnew – it feels like a home away from home. The apartment is in the historic district of Greenpoint close to everything you need, shops, restaurants and great food stores (Garden Market) and a 10 min walk to the heart of Williamsburg. It is minutes away from the East River Ferry which has a stop at India Street in Greenpoint and another stop in Williamsburg at North 6th Street. Hop on the ferry and it takes you upstream to Long Island City in Queens and to Midtown 34th Street (just two stops). From there you can take a free shuttle bus to Broadway. The bus stops at every regular bus stop and loops back to the Ferry via 6th Avenue, 48th Street and Lexington Avenue. Take the ferry downtown with stops on the Brooklyn side at North 6 Street, Schaefer Landing (South Williamsburg) and at the Brooklyn Bridge Park (Fulton Street Landing) before it continues to Manhattan and Pier 11 next to the Financial District, only a 5 minute walk to Pier 17 and maybe a 10-15minutes walk to Wall Street and the WTC Memorial. The Ferry is the quickest way to get to Midtown and the Financial District with stunning views of Manhattans Skyline. Subway stops for the G train are in close range (maybe a 2-3min walk). The G-train takes you into Queens where you can connect to the M/E train to Manhattan (and Central Park) or into Brooklyn to connect to the A/C train to Manhattan. Or walk 10-15min to Williamsburg and take the L-train to union Square.
This apartment felt like a home, no comparison with NY’s overpriced hotels, and is a short distance to Manhattan (again the Ferry ride is stunning). My parents loved all about it (and my kids too). They also liked the feeling to be part of the neighborhood, do their own shopping, cooking sometimes and have a place that feels like theirs for a short time.
- Oliver, Brooklyn, NY, USA
We absolutely loved our stay at Maryla’s place. Every bit you read in the other reviews is true! The apartment is better organized, cleaner and nicer then my own at home. Recently they opend up a ferry from Indiastreet (just a few blocks from the appartment, $4) towards manhattan with several stops along the way. You can get off at the brooklyn bridge and walk towards downtown. It’s the best. The neighbourhoud is changing so fast -in a good way- that it’s attracting tourist by itself. If you are looking for a place that is away from Manhattan with the best value for money this is your place.

It was our first trip to New York (also USA) and we were so confident to choose this apartment. Maryla and Geoffrey, thank you so much for your hospitality and helpful information.
The apartment is very clean, calm, the beds are extremely comfortable. We felt very safe in this area of Brooklyn. Maryla solved every little problem; extra eiderdowns for the frosted North-Germans (the weather was unusual for us: from extremely hot to cold), call a taxi to the airport, Geoffrey speaks perfectly German. This was very helpful for us.
In this Polish area of Brooklyn you can buy everything for fresh cooking. There are a lot of Polish and organic shops, butchers, bakeries, just a short walk away.
We have never had a better family apartment. A flat with lovely details: Schlesische Bunzlauer Keramik (Boleslawiec pottery). And I cannot translate the following meaning in English: Maryla vermietet mit Herz und Seele. Danke!!
- Viola, Germany
We stayed really well in this apartment. Quiet, pleasant, clean, comfortable and supplied with better electric household appliances.
When we arrived, Maryla and Jeffrey welcomed us with warmth and kindness, very appreciated after an hallucinating journey from JFK with a crazy taxi driver in a car without conditioned air!
Apart from this, our stay in NYC has been fantastic. Maryla has been really disposable in all the occasions that we needed of her help. The beds were confortable and they had been a sweet cradle for our dreams. If we’ll return in NYC surely our address will be 2 Clifford Place! We recommend it to friends and relatives. Greenpoint is a quiet district with many shops, supermarkets and services. Subway and buses are near home and there is a beautiful park full of life. We thank New Yorkers very much for their kindness and Maryla and Jeffrey for all things they have done for us.
We’ll sure retain a wonderful clear memory of these holidays. So… the Oscar goes to… Maryla and Jeffrey!
WOW! That should sum it up. Our stay in NY was fabulous all because of the comfortable accommodation we had. The apartment was the cleanest place I’ve EVER been. It was absolutely spotless and sooo… comfortable. We had complete privacy, and it was located within minutes of anywhere you would want to go in NY. When I go to NY again (it will be soon) I hope it will be available for it is certainly THE BEST!
Maryla and Jeffery were so nice and helpful. My husband and I consider that now we have a Home away from Home. Everything was just as it was advertised and more.
- Debbie, Pensacola, FLA, USA
What can I say….I am honored to have stayed at Clifford House! Maryla and Jeffrey were both incredible when we arrived and gave us the insiders view of the area which we were so pleased to have. I called to inquire about availability at the last minute since our SUNY cadet was arriving the next day. Maryla was so gracious and sincerely, personifies hospitality!
The accommodations were more than expected, and the apartment was impeccably clean, well appointed and just perfect for what we were looking for. Truly a class act and clearly, these folks are professionals in all that they do!
Parking was not an issue; we parked almost directly in front of the house every time. As far as the area, it was charming and very easy to get around. My only regret is that we didn’t have more time! I would love to have taken a walk to the park, and the hosts recommend the ferry for a quick tour of the waterfront area of New York.
There is an abundance of eateries in the area for all tastes and price ranges. You can park your car for the entire weekend and just get around on foot.
As I said, the home was fabulous, and sincerely, for the price, an incredible bargain. I would say two couples could stay here comfortably and there was even a washer/dryer which makes the return trip easier as I like to return with clean clothes.
All in all, one of the best experiences I’ve had going to New York. We’ve used HomeAway twice before, and this was by far, the best experience we’ve had and would recommend this to anyone. It was a weekend I won’t forget and we will definitely be back!
Thank you Maryla and Jeffrey for being so welcoming and warm….you were both truly a blessing!

After my parents stayed in one of Maryla’s (the owner’s) apartments for a 2 week stay and absolutely loved it, I recommended my friends also stay when they came to town, but to check out this apartment since the other one was fully booked. It is in a beautiful brownstone and decorated so nicely that you feel you are at home… Only better! I wish my home looked like this!! It reminded me of a quaint British bed and breakfast except you can do your own cooking.
Maryla the owner is such a sweetheart and will go out of her way to make you feel comfortable. There are also brochures in the apartment for suggestions on where to eat and go in the neighborhood. I have never seen a temporary apartment do this!
The area is great too, a short walk to the park and neighboring Williamsburg which is full of boutiques and restaurants and bars.
I can’t recommend this place enough. An adorable apartment at a crazy low price! I searched all over NY for my parents and after finding this place I am recommending it to all my friends who come to stay!
Maryla’s apartment in Greenpoint is ideally situated: 5 minutes walk to the shops, 15 minutes walk to the bars of Williamsburg and only three stops by subway to Manhattan. Clifford Place is a very quiet location. The only thing you can hear in the morning time are the birds.
The apartment is nicely furnished and there are all the facilities you need: washing machine, fully equipped kitchen and everything else. Maryla has recently done some builders work. So the kitchen and the living room are now open, and the new door in the hallway makes it a real private apartment.
Maryla is a very nice person. She would bring fresh flowers, give you advice where to go for dinner or help with your program in town.
We’ve spent three weeks in Maryla’s apartment . It made a big part to our perfect stay in New York.
- Claudio, Zürich, Switzerland
Enjoyed staying at this newly renovated apartment.
The private entrance only enhances the charm of the apartment. It’s sunny yet the street is very quiet and we got an excellent night’s sleep on the comfortable beds. The newly renovated kitchen is perfect.
The place is located in a great neighborhood that has a lot of charm and character and his convenient to Manhattan.
We felt very much at home and Maryla the perfect hostess. We look forward to coming again and enjoying this place.
- Nougail, France
It was great staying here with my friends. The rental was great, we had our own apartment, it was clean, private, and there was just an overall comfortable feeling. We were left alone, unless we needed something, and it was just a fun experience. The owner Maryla is very professional, she responded to our email quickly and she seemed very knowledgeable of what is going on around the neighborhood which helped a lot.
This location is in Brooklyn; the Williamsburg / Greenpoint area. The G train is a 5 minute walk from the house, and connected easily into the city (Manhattan Island). Also the L train is a 10-15 minute walk from the house and it is 1 stop from the city.
Shopping is convenient, there is a grocery store a 2 minutes away, and a main street that has a bunch of shops and places to eat. Also the Williamsburg area has a great nightlife, with bars, galleries, and venues. It always seems like there is something going on.
The overall picture of the neighborhood shows a strange demographic, of young urban professionals and hipsters, mixed with a native the Polish population, it really makes for an authentic experience.
- Peter, USA
In this very nice and spacious apartment we spent a gorgeous time with our two adolescent children. Maryla was a very friendly and attentive host, so we felt like we were at home. We appreciate the calm, cosy and clean apartment with separate bedrooms for us and the children. We slept well in the comfortable beds, enjoyed the fine living room where we had breakfast with nice tableware.
Close to the house there are a lot of shops, delis, restaurants and bars. Greenpoint is a good contrast to the busy and exciting city life of Manhattan.
From the Brooklyn riverside there are different views of the Manhattan skyline. There are different possibilities to reach the city, either you want to go uptown or downtown. The Greenpoint Ave Station (G train) is only a five min walk away from the apartment, you are two stops on the G train and one stop on the E train from Manhattan – 15 min to reach Midtown (5 Ave, MOMA, Rockefeller Center and Central Park), the L train is a 10 to15 min walk – only a single stop away from Manhattan.
We loved our stay here in NY, thanks to Maryla for her hospitality. We recommend the apartment to all who like to discover NY in another, very interesting way.
- Katy, Cologne, Germany
This apartment is just as beautiful as it looks in the photos and Maryla is a wonderful host – there if you need her but not pushy if you’d rather be private. It is a peaceful place to return to after the buzz of Brooklyn and Manhattan and the local area is great, really vibrant and safe too, with lots of shops, restaurants and bars nearby (we’d recommend Five Leaves). We were glad we stayed here as we wouldn’t have had the chance to explore the area otherwise.
The apartment is handily located near the G train but be aware that this line only serves Brooklyn so you’ll need to either change lines to the L or walk to the nearest L station (Bedford Avenue) which is about a 15 minute walk.
The only thing that was a tiny downside (and I’m trying really hard to think of something here) is that the apartment isn’t completely private in that there is a shared front door and stairs up to the apartment but then no private door for the apartment itself. But the only other people using the front door are those in the flat on the ground (first for US readers) which is separate so it felt completely safe. Each room has a lock so your things are safe (it never worried us).We had a great time and will definitely be back. Thank you, Maryla!
- Clare, London, England
It was our first trip to the USA and we were so happy that we chose this property. We caught a taxi from JFK. We were just not up to working out the subway on our first visit. I found the taxi drivers knowledge of anything outside Manhattan itself was not like a London cabby. Not a problem, just an observation. The subway takes a bit of getting used to, but if we can work it out, anyone can.
Maryla is a diamond and was very helpful. She is there if you need her but she totally respects your privacy. The apartment is upstairs and the downstairs is also used by guests so the front door is shared. Maryla is in the basement flat. Very easy access to the shops and supermarket. There is also easy access to the subway. We had one worry about New York, and that was crime. We felt very safe where we stayed and the subway was safe too, even at night. This was a great area to stay, so stay with confidence. I was expecting to see all the subway trains covered in graffiti. They were very clean. You had the very occasional oddball but you will get that anywhere in the world.
The apartment is very clean and those beds are so comfortable. The house inside feels very victorian/edwardian and is just like a typical home you will find in England. Don’t forget your travel adaptor for the plug sockets.
If you visit the Empire State Building try and book your tickets and opt for the Express tickets. You will by pass the huge queue’s. The staff in their regal burgundy uniforms will look after you, but hold your express tickets up high so they can see you. Expect a few comments from other people in the long queue’s like Why are they going before us? We found it quite funny. Try and pre-book The Statue of Liberty too. It saves alot of time. Expect double security checks on the Statue visit.
Overall a great visit. I would recommend Maryla’s apartment to anyone.
- Beefy, England
We planned a girl’s get-away. Having stayed in Manhattan before, we decided to explore Brooklyn. The apartment was perfect. The two bedrooms and living room made it very comfortable for the three of us. The neighborhood is very Polish. Lots of Polish bakeries and restaurants within walking distance. Grocery store is very close so it was easy to buy breakfast items.
Lots to see and do in Brooklyn. Visit Bedford Ave. (Williamsburg). It is about a 20 minute walk from the apt. You can get anywhere in Brooklyn using the metro. We had dinner @ Enoteca on Court St. (Carroll St. sub). Very good Italian food. Great area to walk around. We also took a walking tour of Brooklyn.
If you fly into LGA you can take public transportation to get to the apt.
Give yourself an hour and a half. Take the bus (Q33 or Q72) to the 7 line. Get off @ Long Island City, then get on G line to Greenpoint Ave. If you’re going to be in NYC for 4 or more days, get the 5 day pass. It is well worth it.
- Carol S., Cleveland, OH, USA
It’s a lovely, bright, beautifully furnished flat, the beds are very comfortable! Brooklyn is much more interesting than I expected with fantastic views over Manhattan, especially at sunset. Maryla was very welcoming and helpful. I look forward to staying there again soon.
- Lena, London, England
- Fabiecol, Paris, France
I stayed at this apartment for one week with three friends. The apartment was spacious and comfortable.
Maryla was an excellent host, very helpful and polite.
I cannot recommend this property highly enough. Excellent location and great information in the flat about the surrounding area. Hopefully will stay here again on my next visit to NYC.
- Matthew, Bradford
Very enjoyable 3 day stay in Maryla and Jeff’s apartment. The two were hospitable, warm, and extremely helpful with their knowledge of Brooklyn. Greenpoint is a must to visit with many coffee shops, bars, and small boutiques…change of pace from Manhattan. The apartment was extremely comfortable and clean in a safe environment. Thanks for everything and à la prochaine.
- David Pecce, Montreal
We stayed over a week in NY in December, 2009. It was our first stay in the city and I must say Maryla made us feel most welcome and was very fine hostess all in all.
Apartment it self was very convenient for us 2 adults from Helsinki, Finland, Europe. Apartment was nicely located and it was very easy and quick to take a metro all over NY. We are looking forward visiting NY, Brooklyn and Maryla again!!
- Mr. Finn, Helsinki, Finland
We’ve just returned from a wonderful week at 2 Clifford Place. This was our first trip with a 6-month-old baby, so we were anxious for everything to go as planned. Maryla was incredibly helpful with every detail. Our flight landed very late, and when we finally arrived she had already cleared a space for our portable crib. She was always available for any needs. The apartment was immaculate (I’m quite particular about cleanliness, and it met my standards!) and we loved the location. On a rainy day the subway may be a bit far for some, but we had wonderful weather and enjoyed being outside with the baby and exploring Greenpoint / Williamsburg on foot. Thank you, Maryla!
- We <3 Brooklyn, Seattle
Spent a wonderful 10 days in the apartment in September 09. Perfectly located for the ‘happening’ scene of Greenpoint & Williamsburg, and 10 minute walk to the subway on Bedford where it’s one stop to Manhattan’s East Village. Maryla made us more than welcome & the apartment is great. Definitely recommended and I can’t wait for my next visit!
- Toe Kennedy, London, UK
My stay in Maryla’s house in Greenpoint was a pleasure. The house with the garden was nice, clean and quiet. And just around the corner there are fabulous places for coffee, food and the subway that quickly takes you to Manhattan. I really fell in love with Greenpoint and Marylas place contributed this feeling. I am also grateful for the night when Maryla and Jeff introduced me to wonderful Brooklyn.
- Christina Zetterlund
Thank you for the loan of your fantastic apartment – comfier beds and towels than we have at home. The location of the apartment was convenient for Manhattan and we felt safe in the area. We are also very grateful for your local knowledge, our dinner on Franklin Street was one of the best of the week.
- Ellie Fay, London, England
This has been a fantastic two week holiday for my family and me!
New York is wonderful and we really love the neighborhood – it is convenient, safe and interesting. The apartment is superb and warm, every evening after visiting Manhattan we were happy to come « home » to Brooklyn.
Thank you for your kindness and hospitality.
Hope to see you again… In Italy!
- Sylvia, Rome, Italy
My friends, my wife and I stayed 10 days in April. This apartment was great. It was a very nice place in a very nice area (Williamburg / Greenpoint the new Manhattan), easy access to G line to Manhattan.
We felt very safe walking home at night from the subway.
Maryla and her husband are very welcoming and helpful.
Merci beaucoup Maryla
